Castello di Verduno – Barolo Massara – 2013
The history of Castello di Verduno has very ancient origins but the true production of wine began in 1900, when the Burlotto family bought the property. Thanks to the marriage between Gabriella Burlotto, owner of the Castle, and Franco Bianco, an important producer of Barbaresco, today the company can boast the two most precious jewels of the Langa: Barolo and Barbaresco.
The work in the vineyards has always been carried out with the utmost respect for nature and trying to best enhance the different characteristics of the grape based on its origin.
In the cellar, tradition reigns supreme, fermentation for the most important wines still takes place in wooden vats and aging is long in large oak barrels.
Massara, a cru in the municipality of Verduno, characterized by a significant difference in height and at the same time by one of the most regular exposure of the whole municipality and by good quality soils, things that combined allow to obtain elegant wines but also of good structure. The Burlotto family has owned a few hectares of this Cru since 1910, thus producing a wine that can amaze you with its power and complexity perfectly balanced with the typical elegance of a Barolo di Veruno.
The 2013, despite the difficult climatic trend, the Nebbiolo was able to take great advantages from the end of the season with high temperatures, giving us wines that are perfect for aging and with an excellent structure.
