For 170 years, Champagne Pol Roger has been one of the most famous and renowned houses in history. It was founded in Ay in the mid-19th century by Pol, the son of a notary, who demonstrated remarkable skill in wine production. He produced his first label in 1849, but it was in 1851 that he moved to Epernay, the capital of Champagne. By the end of the century, the Maison’s wines were among the best known and most sought after on the market, despite an unfortunate structural accident at the winery in the early 1900s and the political and economic crisis caused by the world wars. the prestige and quality of the name has never been in question, so much so that it is particularly appreciated by the English court and its Prime Minister Winston Churchill, to whom one of the finest cuv\u00e9es was dedicated in 1975. The three classic varieties Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay are grown mainly in the Cote de Blancs, the Marne Valley, and the Montagne de Reims, with Premier and Grand Cru parcels where the best grapes are harvested. The philosophy of the winery, which made it so famous throughout the world, was to create high-class Champagne in small quantities by introducing malolactic fermentation into the wines and long ageing on the lees, mainly using the Brut dosage. A label of pure audacity, where you can sense the elevation to the next level in capturing the peculiarities of a stratospheric vintage such as 2018, which has a remarkable complexity that will be appreciated even more over the years. Composed of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay in the blend that has always distinguished the company, the grapes come from numerous parcels, all classified as Premier and Grand Cru, between Montagne de Reims and C\u00f4te de Blancs. Following a meticulous process, the grapes are gently pressed several times to extract only the best parts. Vinification takes place separately in steel tanks, including malolactic fermentation, while aging on the lees lasts eight years before d\u00e9gorgement. Lots of freshness on the palate and incredible aromas on the nose, with notes of honey and intense pastry scents that linger on the palate with the same rhythm, giving a round and persistent taste.
