Ch\u00e2teau Mouton Rothschild represents history and prestige in Bordeaux.
\nThe winery is located in Pauillac in the heart of the Medoc, one of the most important mentions for the Premier Grand Cru Class\u00e9 classification where the soils are rich in stones with little clay, an area suitable only for the cultivation of vines due to low fertility. Speaking of the winery’s history, it has been connected since 1853 to the Rothschild family, thanks to the purchase of the current estate from Nathaniel de Rothschild, but only since 1924 with the entry of Philippe de Rothschild did destiny and fame change. The figure of Baron Philippe de Rothschild has been instrumental in the estate’s successes, beginning to vinify and bottle his own wine, building a majestic 100-meter special cooperage, collaborating with world-famous artists such as Picasso for the bottle label, where each vintage is represented by a different work. In accordance with French tradition, the vines are densely planted at 10000 vines per hectare with an average age of 40 years. As far as winemaking is concerned, the winery has always had an eye on preserving a traditional style while always trying to focus on a modern avant-garde style; a clear example are oak vats of different capacities for each type of grape with gravity feeding, while the aging of the wines lends itself to the use of new barrels for at least 2 years. Strongly desired by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, the ” Petit Mouton Rothschild ” represents the estate’s second wine. Produced only since 1993 with the youngest vines from the vineyard classified Premier Grand Cru Class\u00e9, where it undergoes the same aging as the first wine, i.e., for 2 years in new barrels, but is distinguished by its persuasiveness and more pronounced drinkability.
\nIn 2010 the blend consists of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. It presents itself as a wine with hints of red fruit and tobacco in the aromas, in the mouth it is captivating with ripe but never too powerful tannins all softened by a silkiness that few wines can achieve.
