The origins of the Mauro Veglio winery date back to the early 1900s, thanks to the dream of Angelo, Mauro’s father, to bring up the name ” nebbiolo da Barolo” in the world. As a humble farmer from La Morra, in the 1960s he finally managed to invest and buy the first vineyards such as Gattera, Arborina and Rocche dell’Annunziata, among others the best ever for position and exposure. The radical change in the winery came precisely with Mauro’s entry in the late 1980s, where the focus was on producing wines with new techniques, trying to extract more color and tannin and incorporating the use of small barrels precisely to produce wines that were more ready to drink and less dark and rustic. The first real vintage under Mauro Veglio’s name occurred in 1992. With the entry of his grandson Alessandro, the winery sees a continuity of family management, aiming more and more to make niche and quality wines. The winery now manages 19 hectares, remaining attentive to vineyard work by eliminating pesticides and chemicals altogether. Rocche dell’Annunziata is certainly the most interesting vineyard in terms of complexity at the Veglio winery. We are in La Morra, here Nebbiolo grapes thanks to the southeast exposure and soils rich in stone and sand, enjoy a larger structure with great evolutionary capacity over time. For the first time in the winery’s history, it was decided to vinify this parcel as a Riserva, not surprisingly the 2016 vintage was chosen, the best in terms of aging capacity in the last 20 years. With the vines about 40 years old, the wine was aged for 24 months in barriques of which 30% new, plus a few months in steel tanks and almost 3 years in the bottle. 1900 bottles produced.
