Vietti – Barolo Brunate – 2018

A magnificent Grand Cru halfway between la Morra and Barolo village, Brunate borders Cerequio but is distinguished by its different altitude and exposure, here the Nebbiolo grape expresses itself at great levels for which this vineyard is considered very excellent in the production of austere and refined Barolos. Vietti is among the most renowned producers, soils with clay traits where their vines have an average age of 55 years facing south from low yield. Selected grapes, vinified on the skins with submerged cap for three weeks in steel tanks, malolactic fermentation as per philosophy takes place in wood before aging in both barriques and large barrels that lasts 32 months total. A wine that captivates from the first sip reflecting the great work behind it, powerful and expansive aromas of dark berry fruit and grapefruit, full and round drink with a disarming balance between acidity and velvety tannins. Recommended!

Description

We are talking about the end of the 1800s, when Carlo Vietti founded the winery in the small town of Castiglione Falletto, immediately realizing the great potential that territory could have. From 1919 his son Mario began to produce the first wines. The winery’s history, however, was marked by the great winemaker Alfredo Currado, the first ever to vinify the individual vineyards individually, and in 1961 the Barolo “Rocche di Castiglione” was thus released on the market.
Today the winery is one of the most important in the entire Barolo area, in fact since 2016 it has been purchased by the American Krause Holdings, thus allowing the family to expand their assets while continuing to produce wines of great territoriality and value.
