Description

One of the wineries with more history and quality in Piedmont. We are in Nizza Monferrato, the best area for the production of Barbera, and it is right here where Cantina Scarpa was established in 1854 by the Venetian migrant Antonio Scarpa. Thanks to enologist Mario Pesce, who took over the winery in the 40’s, it was possible to see a clear improvement of wines and style. The technique of the winery despite its centenarian history is always the same: macerations and long aging in exclusively large oak casks and in bottle. But the main point which made this winery famous is the importance they give to grapes relatively considered as easier to drink such as Ruché and Barbera, succeeding in obtaining great results but most of all wines capable of aging even for 20 years! (something truly unique and rare, as they are fresh wines to be drunk in the first years). Besides being famous for Barbera such as the legendary Bogliona where it is aged for 4 years, the winery also produces Barolo and Barbaresco: coming from very old vineyards and aged in big wooden barrels for a long time, without following the precise rules of the disciplinary, but just following the natural times of the wine, just to exalt the different microclimates conceiving wines of great structure capable of evolving well in time even for 50 years.
This winery expresses the real essence of great Piedmontese wines. Here you can breathe the real old school!!!
