Giovanni Porro – Langhe Nebbiolo – 2020

Its first label ever, it has decided to make a name for itself in the world of the big boys in small steps with a limited production of 1,600 bottles annually. An intriguing Langhe Nebbiolo, vineyards in Serralunga in the Cerrati locality with mature plants in optimal exposure to produce Barolo, however, because of little experience and little capital to invest he opted for simple winemaking. Fermentation and maceration of the grapes in cement tanks of which 50% whole cluster so as to extract color, aging in used barriques for about 7/8 months before bottling. A wine with egregious character, red fruit aromas with spicy touches, it is firm and full on the palate, robust tannins accompanied by a fresh finish. Good the first one!

Description

One of the new young minds on the Langhe wine scene, Stefano Porro is part of the latest generation of winemakers with a desire to make his mark right away. Born in 1993, his family has always been linked to the world of wine, ending up passionate about it as well, in the past in fact they were grape growers without ever having thought of producing it. The turning point came in 2018 when Stefano inherited nebbiolo vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba in the Cerrati area (owned by his grandfather), very old plants in excellent exposure that he rearranges by producing his first label in 2020. Few bottles produced, a lot of resourcefulness in the work from the vineyard to the winery, a lot of extraction in the vinification and use of oak barrels. It is only the beginning but it already looks great.
