Cascina Gavetta – Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello – 2021

Novello’s Nascetta is the most representative white grape variety of this locality. With ancient origins, and a fluctuating history due to low productivity, this grape variety for Cascina Gavetta represents the history and origins of the village of Novello. The winery produces about 1,000 bottles of it, where vines older than 50 years are selected and only the best grapes are harvested. The wine has undergone a classic vinification in steel. The result for me is one of the most representative nascette that can be found on the market. Aromas of white flowers, aromatic notes and almond, in the mouth it is full-bodied, gastronomic, with good acidity that allows a beautiful evolution over the years.

Description

Cascina Gavetta is one of the most authentic realities of the Langa. It is not just a winery that bases its entire economy on wine, but it can be called a true all-round farm. We are in Novello, the Cogno family has been cultivating the land for generations with care and patience, investing money in woods to preserve the ecosystem, knows every sparrow by heart, does every manual labor, grazes cattle, produces excellent salami and finally manages several hectares of vineyards. The farm is run solely on a family level, where from the youngest children to grandparents and uncles over 80 share the various tasks, with the same enthusiasm as a century ago. There are no technologies, even willow is cultivated to tie the vines, between the rows also fruit trees are found just to give some shade in the few moments of rest as well as a good genuine fruit to munch on. Every single gesture is thought out with the aim of never wasting anything, and especially time. Let us say that here we find the true Piedmontese essence, not yet gentrified, which with true values tries to produce genuine products. As for the vineyards, only in the 2000s the family decided to bottle a few thousand bottles with the native Piedmontese grapes, the remaining part of the vineyards are leased to other producers or cooperatives. The philosophy is to make good wines, without looking at quantity; they do not care about satisfying the market, but they are the ones who select the right clientele.
