Brovia – Barolo Garblèt Sué – 2018

Dialect name for the Altenasso vineyard in the commune of Castiglione Falletto, the lower part of the Fiasco vineyard hill where the soils are very rich in sand with clayey sections and less sloping slopes for wines with character but pleasant drinking. Production limited to a few thousand bottles, 30-year-old vines with good southwest exposure where the grapes are vinified with indigenous yeasts in steel tanks for 15-20 days, aging continues in 20 Hl barrels for 24 months before bottling where no filtration or clarification is done. The result is a Barolo of fine workmanship, nose recalling hints of underbrush and ripe fruit, on the palate it proves structured with firm but balanced tannins, long persistent finish.

Description

The Brovia winery was founded by grandfather Giacinto in 1863 in Castiglione Falletto, the heart of the Barolo production area, and after a succession of generations, in the present day we find Elena and her Spanish husband Alessandro Sanchez carrying on the name of this historic winery. The style is traditional, but with a modern, avant-garde twist: they use medium-large French oak barrels for aging, and organic farming in the vineyard. The winery owns and produces some of the best crus in the Barolo area, such as the Grand Cru Villero in Castiglione Falletto, famous for giving silky Barolos of unparalleled elegance, the Rocche in Castiglione Falletto famous for giving wines that are both elegant but also have character, the Brea Ca’ Mia the only vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba with limestone soils, and the Garblet sue in Castiglione Falletto. The peculiarity of Brovia’s wines is their constant elegance and refinement…their wines are never too hard and tannic, but silky and pleasant to drink even when young.
